Here are some sources of information relevant to PC-Travel:

Hardware

Here are some sources for the hardware you need to buy for travel time studies. You can also usually buy the hardware from us (click here), but we don’t mind if you find your own best deals. If you have any questions about using a specific GPS receiver or PDA or whatever, then just ask.

BuyGPSNowLogo

This is an excellent source for GPS receivers. Normally you would use a USB Mouse type receiver, but you could use a Bluetooth GPS or a CompactFlash/SD GPS device, depending on what other hardware you are using.

VersaPoint Remote(75)

This is the remote control we recommend for GPS2LT. It makes the data collection easier and safer. Here are a couple of sources for this remote:

Amazon TigerDirect

HP1910 PDA

If you are considering using a PDA for your data collection, but don’t want to spend the money for a new one, you can often find good deals on the Internet. eBay is the logical and usually the best bet, but here a couple of other sources. The supply varies, but you can often find a good deal.

2007 TIGER/Line® Shapefiles

Here is where you can download the shapefiles for your county to use in PC-Travel. The data is free. Appendix 1 in the PC-Travel Manual shows how to get these files and then format them into files that look good on the map.

TatukGIS Viewer

Here is where you can download the program that we use to format the shapefiles you get free from the Census Bureau or from the Data Distributor Application if you have ArcGIS. Appendix 1 in the PC-Travel Manual shows how to install and use this software.
